| - Inhalation | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Sympton | Cough, dispnea | ||||||||||||||||||||

| 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES |
|||||||||||||||||||||
| The product not is inflammable, it is combustible (Fire class A – solid combustible substances) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Suitable extinguishing media |
All types of extinguishing media are suitable. Cool containers exposed to fire by sprinkling with nebulised water. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Risks from exposure to the substance, the combustion products or gases produced | In case of fire toxic vapours of CO and NOx are formed. Under certain combustion conditions, and particularly in carbonisation at low temperature, other toxic gases such as hydrocyanic acid may be formed. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Protective equipment for fire-fighting team |
Self-contained breathing apparatus and fireproof overalls. In case of fire, the fire-fighting water should be let into the sewer system only after obtaining official authorisation, if possible. There should be no problem with the operation of biological treatment plants. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 6. MEASURES IN CASE OF ACCIDENTAL RELEASE |
|||||||||||||||||||||
| Cleaning methods | Carefully sweep up the released product. Carefully clean traffic areas to prevent falls due to slipping. Examine the possibility to reuse or eliminate in conformity with existing regulations (also see sect. 13). | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE |
|||||||||||||||||||||
| Handling
|
Store preferably in compact form (bales
or bags). Avoid storing outdoors if possible.
In some operations involving an increase in product temperature, vapours may be generated by the finishing oils and/or residual solvent (DMAC), so a suitable exhaust system must be provided to ensure observance of TLV-ACGIHs in the workplace. Synthetic fibres, like natural fibres, may generate dust during the textile processing phase. The fibre is physiologically inert, but the concentration of breathable dust in the environment must be kept below the levels indicated in the TLV-ACGIHs. Keep away from flames and sparks. Beware of electrostatic charges. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| Recommended equipment and procedures | Safety goggles, protective gloves and face-mask. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Prohibited equipment and procedures | The wearing of contact lenses should be avoided. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 7.2 - Storage | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Specific design of areas and containers | Protect containers from physical damage and the action of heat (with roofs, sprinkler cooling systems, etc.). For the possible present of DMAC the conteiners should be in polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylalcohol high molecular weight. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Storage conditions | Store containers or bales in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from flames and sparks. Do not smoke. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Special electrical system | Use adequate safety devices and provide electrical connections earthed against the accumulation of static electricity. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Packing used | Polyethylene bags | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 7.3 - Particular use # | In case of particular use the manufacturer should be consulted beforehand | ||||||||||||||||||||
8. EXPOSURE CONTROL/PERSONAL PROTECTION |

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION (cont.) |
|||||||||||||||||||||
| Hazardous effects deriving from exposure to the substance | The products are not toxic. When properly used, the fibre products have never been known to have hazardous effects on the health. Quantities of less than 1% of finish normally applied to them have not been reported as irritating for the skin or mucous membranes. If special uses are contemplated for the products, such as in the food or healthcare industries, the manufacturer should be consulted beforehand. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| # | Indications on DMAC:
DMAC is classified toxic for reproduction (category 2), harmful by inhalation
and by contact with the skin. No labelling is requested for products which have DMAC content lower than 5%. The exposure limit is not changed. According to ACGIH (Table 2000) and EU Directive: TLV-TWA, OEL: 10 ppm = 36 mg/m3 Note: danger of cutaneous absorbtion. |
